In the history of India's freedom struggle, many heroes sacrificed their lives for the country. Among these martyrs, the most inspiring young heroes are Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar. These three young men have become a permanent inspiration to the youth of India with their courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. The sacrifice of these three young revolutionaries in India's freedom struggle has been immortalized in history.
Bhagat Singh was born in 1907 in a patriotic family in Punjab. Patriotism was strong in him from childhood. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place in 1919 shook the entire country. That incident left a deep impression on Bhagat Singh's mind. Since then, his life goal has been the country's independence. At the same time, Shivaram Raj Guru, who was born in Maharashtra, was also growing up as a young revolutionary. He had a special skill with weapons. Due to his courage and agility, he played an important role in revolutionary activities. Another young man from Punjab, Sukh Dev Thapar, also grew up with a patriotic upbringing. He had great leadership qualities. He played a major role in organizing the youth and involving them in the freedom movement. Together, these three young men joined a revolutionary organization called Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) and started a struggle against British rule.
A tragic incident took place in 1928. The police brutally lathi-charged the prominent nationalist leader Lala Lajpat Rai while he was protesting British rule. He died a few days later due to his injuries. This incident ignited anger throughout the country. The revolutionaries decided to punish the British officer responsible for this. In that action, Raj Guru Saunders opened fire on a British officer. Bhagat Singh also participated in this action. After this incident, they worked secretly for some time. Later in 1929, the British government tried to bring in strict laws to suppress the freedom of Indians. In protest, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw a bomb in the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi. The bomb was made to harm no one. After throwing the bomb, they did not flee. They surrendered while shouting slogans such as “Inquilab Zindabad”. After this incident, the British police started a large-scale investigation into the revolutionaries. Sukhdev was arrested in Lahore in the Saunders murder case, and later Raj Guru was caught in Pune. Finally, these three young revolutionaries were made the main accused in the Lahore conspiracy case.
Despite being in jail, they did not stop the struggle. They went on a long hunger strike demanding due respect for Indian prisoners. Their courage caused a debate throughout the country. Finally, the court verdict was issued. The British government sentenced Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru, and Sukhdev to death. These three young heroes were hanged in Lahore Jail on March 23, 1931. Even though they were going to the gallows, they were not afraid. They bravely shouted slogans like “Inquilab Zindabad” and walked to the gallows smiling. Their sacrifice shocked the entire country. But at the same time, it further ignited the flame of freedom among crores of Indians. The courage and sacrifice shown by these three young heroes continue to inspire the youth of India even today.
