In a village, there was a smart boy named Abhi. Abhi loved sports along with his studies. He always dreamed of winning the first prize in the school race.
This year too, the school anniversary race was held. "This time I must win!" Abhi was very determined. He woke up early every morning and practiced hard for hours in the school grounds. He learned very carefully how to run, when to run fast, and how to control his breathing. While he was practicing, many children were playing, but Abhi did not join them and focused on his practice. His only goal was to win the first prize.
The day of the competition came. Abhi was very excited and a little tense. The final race began. Abhi ran very fast. He was ahead of everyone! Everyone applauded Abhi. But, at the last stage, Abhi unexpectedly sprained his leg! He fell down. Another boy behind him won and received the first prize.
Abhi felt very sad. "Oh! I practiced so hard, didn't I? But I couldn't win!" He came home crying. His whole mind was filled with despair. "I will never participate in any competition again!" he thought.
Dad looked at Abhi and asked, "What happened, Dad? Why are you so sad?".
Abhi cried and told him everything that had happened. "No matter how hard I tried, Dad, I didn't get any results! I will never practice again!" he said.
Then my father took Abhi and said, "My dear Abhi! In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna said a great thing.
“You have the right to perform your karma (prescribed duties), but you are not entitled to the fruits of your karma (actions). Never consider yourself the cause of the fruits of your actions, nor be attached to akarma (not doing your duty).”(2:47)
Dad said that you worked hard. Your leg sprained, that is not under your control, right? Sometimes, no matter how well we work, unexpected things can happen. Because of that, the result of our work may not be as we expected."
"It is natural to feel sad that you did not win. But you practiced so hard, didn't you? That's a great thing. Your body has become strong; you have learned many things about running. If you stop trying, that knowledge and strength will be wasted. Your leg may have sprained because you didn't win, but your effort is not wrong. So, don't be too eager about the result, but don't give up on the work and do it diligently. If you don't get the desired result, don't worry about it and stop working."
"You have learned many things from the work you did today. Next time, you can practice even better and be careful not to sprain your leg. Remember, if you stop because you don't get one victory, you will never get another victory. You have to keep trying."
Dad’s words went straight to his mind. He understood his mistake. "Yes, Dad! I will practice again. "I will do my best without thinking about whether I will win this time or not!" said Abhi. From that day on, Abhi started practicing not just for the sake of winning but also to do his work diligently. He became very mentally strong.

Key message:
Children, when we do something, we should not be too optimistic about its results. We only have the right to work. If you do not get the desired results, do not get upset and stop working. Do not get discouraged when you get negative results and try again. This will make you very strong. Never give up your efforts and your dedication.
