A Maremma temple was built in SC Colony, Ayudhakallu village, Settur mandal more than 100 years ago. A Temple Trustee realized the idol had become damaged and was not suitable for worship. However, the organization's workers asked the organization's elders to provide an idol of the goddess. They approached GHHF. Dr, Prakash Rao of GHHF immediately responded and helped to provide an idol of the goddess to their village. This program was carried out by Prakash Rao to the temple in a procession.
The villagers welcomed the new Goddess in a big procession where villagers were washing the streets as the vehicle carrying the Goddess was going through the main street. Some were throwing flowers, others mango leaves.
Sri Gopi Chary, the priest who is associated with GHHF for the last eight years came with us performed all the initial rituals required before the installation.
In Hinduism, broken idols are replaced in temples because they are believed to lose their divine energy (prana) and spiritual power once damaged, becoming inauspicious and potentially attracting negative energy, so they are respectfully removed through rituals and replaced with new, properly consecrated ones to maintain the sanctity and spiritual potency of the shrine.
Reasons for Replacement
• Loss of Divine Energy (Prana): A consecrated idol is considered a vessel for the deity's energy; a break signifies this energy has departed, making the idol unfit for worship.
• Inauspiciousness: Broken idols are seen as attracting misfortune or negative vibrations (vaastu dosh).
• Disrespect to the Deity: Worshipping a damaged form is seen as disrespectful to the deity's image and presence.
• Psychological Impact: A broken statue can disturb devotees and serve as a painful reminder of cultural desecration or personal humiliation, hindering spiritual focus.
