[GHHF] Had the honor of meeting Dr. H R Nagendra, who is conducting a 5 Day Yoga Camp in Dallas, TX
Global Hindu Heritage Foundation is fortunate to have met Dr. Nagendra and had the opportunity to honor him. We spoke briefly about the need to protect Bharat and Sanatana Dharma without sacrificing individual interests. Also, we talked about the importance of doing service at the ground level in Bharat. We mentioned that GHHF is conducting 16 activities at the ground level in nine different States in Bharat.
Dr. Prakasarao Velagapudi, Chandra Movva, M. Chandrakant, Anjaneya, and Nagamani Puppala of GHHF honored him with a Shaul and presented him with four books published by GHHF.
We thank Sri Satyam Kalyandurg, Satish Gupta, and Ragu Bharadwaj for making our meeting possible.
As we are aware, Dr. Nagendra chaired the organizing committee for the first International Day of Yoga in New York (June 21, 2015), where two world records were set the biggest yoga class and the maximum participating nationalities.
He is known for advocating the integration of traditional yoga wisdom with modern scientific research. He is Instrumental in campus development for S-VYASA:
• Prashanti Kutiram campus (100 acres near Bengaluru) serves as the main research and academic hub.
• Arogyadhama: A wellness center combining modern medicine, yoga therapy, naturopathy, Ayurveda, physiotherapy, and acupuncture to treat non-communicable diseases; recognized internationally.
Dr. Nagendra’s distinguishing character is combining ancient yogic practices and philosophies with empirical, scientific validation. He champions a methodology where:
• Indian scriptural wisdom (e.g., from the Yoga Sutras, Upanishads, Vedanta, and other ancient texts) is studied not just philosophically but as testable hypotheses.
• These ideas are subjected to modern research protocols, such as clinical trials, physiological measurements, neuroimaging, etc., to assess their effects on health and well-being.
He emphasizes that the wisdom in Indian scriptures encompasses concepts of holistic health, consciousness, and mind–body harmony.
The precision and objectivity of modern scientific methods can test and validate yogic interventions in measurable terms.
In his writings, Dr. Nagendra frames science and spirituality not as adversaries but as complementary. His institute’s motto effectively captures this mission: to ease the boundaries between spiritual insight and scientific scrutiny.
