[GHHF] Attended Sri Ravi Shankar's event in Dallas; Talked about the importance of meditation and conducted a 27-minute guided Meditation.
On October 8th, Thousands of people attended Sri Ravi Shankar’s event, filled with good vibrations and guided meditation, at the Toyota Meditation Factory in Dallas. He discussed Sudershan Meditation and how it can transform one’s life. He described some of the incidents where some people with cancer were cured due to proper meditation. Numerous studies have been conducted and published in scientific journals.
We were fortunate to meet him before the event in a private dining area, where he discussed the activities of the Art of Living. He talked to the members of each of the organizations. We were fortunate to meet him and share our books and brochures. We received a copy of his book “The Journey Within.”
The organization showed a video about Guruji's life history. Born in 1956 in Southern India, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was a gifted child. By the age of four, he was able to recite parts of the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Sanskrit scripture, and was often found in deep meditation. Gurudev’s first teacher, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, had a long association with Mahatma Gandhi. By the age of seventeen in 1973, Gurudev had graduated with degrees in both Vedic literature and physics.
He talked about the importance of Meditation, and he brought peace across the globe. He mentioned that there are more than 10,000 meditation centers in about 180 countries.
He addressed the need to live peacefully and how to achieve a stress-free life. People often worry about what others say and think about them. You keep thinking about others. By dwelling on others, we are affecting our minds and health and harboring negative thoughts. Thus, we are affecting our health by thinking about others.
He says that being angry with others' mistakes is a way of punishing yourself. You are unnecessarily brooding and affecting billions of cells in our body. By not solving the problems of others, we get angry at ourselves. We need to understand ourselves, about our mind, our displaced anger, and how to root out this anger to live peacefully.
A stress-free life is everybody’s right. He said, “Stress impacts the way we think, feel, and behave, thus affecting all aspects of our lives. The consequences of letting stress rule are nothing short of disastrous and tragic. Yet it seems so complicated for people to let go of it. Intellectually, you know, “Oh, I shouldn't be upset, I shouldn't be annoyed. I shouldn't lose my temper.” But in practical life, it doesn't translate into reality. When that moment comes, when the negativity comes like a flood, it just overpowers you and throws you off balance.”
Mediation classes are being conducted all over the world, and are also being undertaken in classes and prisons, also making hard-core criminals’ spokespersons for peace.
In his speech, Sri Ravi Shankar mentioned that the UN General Assembly declared World Meditation Day to be observed on December 21 each year.
