Part II
Hindu Temples – What Happened to Them?
It is a two-volume book written by Sita Ram Goel, Arun Shourie, Harsh Narain, Jay Dubashi and Ram Swarup. The first volume was published in spring 1990. The first volume includes a list of 2000 mosques that were built on Hindu temples. It includes the names of the original Hindu Temple and the Mosque names – district-by-district and state-by-state. This list is based primarily on the books of Muslim historians of the period or the inscriptions of the mosques and also personal investigation.
Sri Rama Temple at Ayodhya
On the site of the birth of Lord Rama, a magnificent temple devoted to Him was erected. However, Babur, a fifteenth Mogul invader, brutalized India and also destroyed Rama Temple raised a structure in it’s place, which he called Babri Masjid. The temple complex comprised of the Janmasthan of Sri Rama at Kot Ram Chander, the private apartments (mahal sarai) of King Dashrath and Sri Rama, and a temple and a kitchen popularly known as Sita Ki Rasoi, where tradition held that Sita (wife of Sri Rama) lived. All three were demolished and a mosque constructed thereupon in 1528 A.D. For centuries Hindus tried to recover this auspicious site. In 2010, somewhat confusing verdict was issued by Allahabad High court accepting Ayodhya as a birth of Rama.
Krishna janmasthala in Mathura
The Keshava Rai Temple at Mathura was built by Bir Singh Deo Bundela during Jahangir’s time at a cost of thirty-three lakhs of rupees. The Dehra of Keshava Rai was one of the most magnificent temples ever built in India and enjoyed veneration of the Hindus throughout the land. Alberuni observed that this temple was approximately 20 times large than the largest mosque he ever saw in his life.
1. The next big temple was constructed here during the time of the Gupta Emperor Chandragupta Vikramaditya around 400 AD. This temple was so grand that it was said that neither painting nor description could describe it. Mahmud of Ghazni destroyed the temple in 1017 AD.
2. Another temple was built here in 1150. It was destroyed in the 16th century during the reign of Sikander Lodi.
3. The Dehra of Keshava Rai was demolished in the month of Ramzan (13 January – 11 February 1670) by Aurangzeb’s order. “In a short time, by the great exertion of the officers, the destruction of this strong foundation of infidelity was accomplished and on its site a lofty mosque was built at the expenditure of a large sum”.
Thus the barbarian Islamic rulers Mohamud Ghazni, Sikander Lodi and Aurangzeb destroyed the Krishna Janmasthala. In fact Aurangzeb not only destroyed the Mandir in 1669-1670 but he built Idgah Qila (mosque) over it.Even today the visitors can still see the mosque on top of the Krishna Janmasthala to prove that the Hindus can be crushed, and made gutless and spineless.
Viswanath Temple in Benares was the target of Islamic Terror:
Kashi Viswanath Temple, Varanasi Kashi Viswanath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is popularly known as the 'Golden Temple' due to the gold plating done on its 15.5-meter high spire. One tonneof gold donated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh has been used in the gold plating of the spire. The temple was destroyed by various invaders and was rebuilt in 1776 by Rani Ahilyabai of Indore. Due to security reasons, metal detectors are placed throughout the temple. The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb who built the Gaynvapi Mosque in its place destroyed the Viswanath temple. Even today the western wall of the mosque show the remnants of a temple, which had very intricate and fine artwork on it.
The original Shiva temple of Kashi finds mention in the scriptures. The current temple is believed to have been built in the eleventh century, which was destroyed by Muhammad Ghori in the twelfth century. The temple was rebuilt by devotees but then demolished by the slave king QutubuddinAibak. After Aibak's death, the temple was rebuilt with the permission of his successor, the slave king Altutmish, better known as the father of the first woman ruler of Delhi, Razia Sultana. The temple of Kashi Viswanath was again destroyed by Feroze Shah Tughlaq in the fourteenth century. The temple was rebuilt by Raja Todarmal, the revenue minister in the court of the Mughal king Akbar. Aurangzeb, Akbar's great grandson demolished the temple, built a mosque known as the Gyanvapi mosque in its place, and even renamed the city Mohammedabad from Kashi. In the eighteenth century, the queen Ahilyabai Holkar rebuilt the temple, and in the nineteenth century, Maharaja Ranjit Singh donated 1000 kilos of gold to gold plate the temple spire and the dome.
It is believed that the Gyanvapi well is the place where the original Shiva lingam was buried. It is said that the priests of the temple saved the lingam when Aurangzeb attacked the temple, by throwing it in a well. Visible from here, is the Gyanvapi mosque that Aurangzeb had built, the living proof from history of the destructive nature and the uselessness of narrow-mindedness and hatred.
Irfan Husain (Pakistani Writer) in his article “Demons from the Past” observes: "Their temples were razed, their idols smashed, their women raped, their men killed or taken slaves. When Mahmud of Ghazni entered Somnath on one of his annual raids, he slaughtered all 50,000 inhabitants. Aibak killed and enslaved hundreds of thousands. The list of horrors is long and painful. These conquerors justified their deeds by claiming it was their religious duty to smite non-believers. Cloaking themselves in the banner of Islam, they claimed they were fighting for their faith when, in reality, they were indulging in straightforward slaughter and pillage...”
Will Durant argued in his 1935 book "The Story of Civilization: Our Oriental Heritage" (p: 459): "The Mohammedan conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history. The Islamic historians and scholars have recorded with great glee and pride the slaughters of Hindus, forced conversions, abduction of Hindu women and children to slave markets and the destruction of temples carried out by the warriors of Islam during 800 AD to 1700 AD. Millions of Hindus were converted to Islam by sword during this period."
Dr. Keonraad Elst also writes in his book "Negation in India":
"The Muslim conquests, down to the 16th century, were for the Hindus a pure struggle of life and death. Entire cities were burnt down and the populations massacred, with hundreds of thousands killed in every campaign, and similar numbers deported as slaves. Every new invader made (often literally) his hills of Hindus skulls. Thus, the conquest of Afghanistan in the year 1000 was followed by the annihilation of the Hindu population; the region is still called the Hindu Kush, i.e. Hindu slaughter."
Francois Gautier in his book 'Rewriting Indian History' (1996) wrote: "The massacres perpetuated by Muslims in India are unparalleled in history, bigger than the Holocaust of the Jews by the Nazis; or the massacre of the Armenians by the Turks; more extensive even than the slaughter of the South American native populations by the invading Spanish and Portuguese."
Alain Danielou in his book, History of India writes:
"From the time Muslims started arriving, around 632 AD, the history of India becomes a long, monotonous series of murders, massacres, spoliations, and destructions. It is, as usual, in the name of 'a holy war' of their faith, of their sole God, that the barbarians have destroyed civilizations, wiped out entire races."
Writer Fernand Braudel wrote in A History of Civilizations (1995),that Islamic rule in India was "extremely violent", and "the Muslims could not rule the country except by systematic terror. Cruelty was the norm – burnings, summary executions, crucifixions or impalements, inventive tortures. Hindu temples were destroyed to make way for mosques. On occasion there were forced conversions. If ever there were an uprising, it was instantly and savagely repressed: houses were burned, the countryside was laid waste, men were slaughtered and women were taken as slaves."
Even after Independence in 1947, these relentless, brutal, merciless, inhumane and ruthless attacks on India, especially on Hindu Temples and Hindus are inflicting untold number of people, killing thousand of Hindus, denying Hindus to practice their religious festivals, and blocking the practice of offering Aarthi and ringing bells. No politician in certain parties dare say any thing against fearing of loosing the advantage of vote bank politics; no media wants to have an open discussion on the open declaration by Islamic leaders to complete “unfinished business” of converting India into an Islamic state; no ruling party politician talks about forced conversions in Bangladesh and Pakistan where Hindu Population has dwindled drastically, no ruling part will discuss theBangladesh infiltration and many politicians shamelessly pump money to Hajj subsidy.
Unless Hindus realize the potential damage they might experience in the near future in the hands of Muslims, they will have a bitter awakening waiting at their doorsteps. Chances are that Sharia law may be imposed denying the very basic freedom Hindus are enjoying today;Jizya tax may be imposed or conversion to Islam is demanded;many Hind Temples will be desecrated and destroyed;genital mutilation may be implemented;bomb blasts will increase killing more and more people and creating a terror in the hearts of Hindus; cow slaughter will become rampant; killing of kefirs will increase as per the dictates sanctioned by Quran; Hindu girls will be kidnapped, married forcibly and convert them; and many politicians will sell the country for their selfish for money and power.
Sri Aurobindo clearly saw what was coming. Hindus have repeatedly ignored the sage’s words, negated the atrocities committed by Muslim rulers, hiding in the trenches as if nothing is happening, and accepting the repeated false statement that Islam is a peaceful religion. More than 100 years ago, Sri Aurobindo clearly forewarned on September 1909: "Every action for instance which may be objectionable to a number of Mahommedans, is now liable to be forbidden because it is likely to lead to a breach of peace. And one is dimly beginning to wonder whether worship in Hindu temples may be forbidden on that valid ground.” What a foresight? What a prophetic statement? How true it was and is. Similarly Francois Gautier observed that, “We will never be able to assess the immense physical harm done to India by the Muslim invasions. Even more difficult is to estimate the moral and the spiritual damage done to Hindu India. But once again, the question is not of vengeance, or of reawakening old ghosts, but of not repeating the same mistakes. Unfortunately, the harm done by the Muslims conquest is not over.” Repeated bomb blasts killing thousands of people are the testimony for the hatred toward Hindus and public, open challenge to convert India into an Islamic country.
KoenraadElst also describes the brutality, terrorism and obsessive nature of Islam. He observed that unlike all others religions, “Islam is violence-prone and terror-minded with an unprecedented systematicity and therefore on a much larger scale. Unlike Hinduism, Islam was founded by and looks up to a man who committed murder, abduction for ransom, rape, slave-taking and slave-trading.”He even goes to the extent of stating that Islam is comfortable with violence, and has no principles, ethics, morals and scruples in conducting large-scale terrorist attacks. Once the so-called enemy is rooted out, then they fight among themselves because it is the nature of Islam to keep waging wars within or without.
V S Naipual has written extensively on the brutality of Muslims and how it wounded the richest, lone surviving cultures, that is Hinduism. Islam is born only to both enslaved and attempted to wipe out other cultures."It has had a calamitous effect on converted peoples. To be converted you have to destroy your past, destroy your history. You have to stamp on it, you have to say 'my ancestral culture does not exist, it doesn't matter'."
If Hindus fail to learn the lessons of more than ten centuries of atrocities, Islamic genocide of Hindus, demolition of Hindu Temples, denigration of Hindu Gods, enslaving Hindu women and children, and amputate all Hindus who refuse to be converted, not only they will experience similar horrific, barbaric, and brutalatrocities and they are also paving the way for their own kith and kin to go through untold misery and melancholy. History will repeat itself. Hindus will be doomed to make mistakes their forefathers committed. The blood will flow on the streets, heaps of skulls will be on display, cries of torture and mutilation will be heard miles and miles, more and more mosques will be built on the Hindu Temple sites following their demolition, the statues of Hindu gods will be used again to construct the footsteps to the mosques, many more mountains will be converted to “Hindu Kush” mountains, and finish the “unfinished business” very soon.
